This week I tried out a new Yoga Studio. The studio is only a few blocks from my home, so I was excited at the prospect of biking to class.
That was ambitious.
After my first flow, it is clear to me that I will be biking -nowhere- after a class. Thank heavens I took my car to the first class. Otherwise, I would have been stranded. I had to drag my limp body across the parking lot, just to sit in the car and recover before heading home. I’m pretty sure I lost 5 pounds in sweat. The room was heated to 85, but the temperature felt like 100 degrees. By the end of class, I was dripping liquid from my head to my pinky toe. Most of the class was spent mopping my face and chest with a tiny rag. My hair bun refused to be contained… I lost a headband in the war.
I’ve been in tough flow classes before and I thought I could handle whatever they threw at me. I was humbled. I did keep up, but barely. Normally, I attempt all the advanced poses, but this time I could even attempt half the asanas. I almost ran screaming when I witnessed the instructor do a handstand into Firefly pose, then ask us to repeat. But I pressed on and my body is suffering because of it. I probably should have sat the last backbend out.
This week was a good reminder to check the ego. Challenge yourself but be respectful of your body. Your practice can and will change day to day, week to week, season to season.
So, this Friday, easy stretches. The humbled dog will be sitting on my mat and working out some kinks. Come join in.

Would Kendrick Lamar be a little too on the nose here?
Maybe, but don’t let that stop you.
Enjoy to weekend all.
